Gate area snack fix in KOA’s Main Terminal
KBS Snackshop sits in the Main Terminal at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. It’s post-security, so you can grab something after clearing the open-air checkpoints and before you settle in at your gate.
This is a straightforward snack shop: packaged chips, candy, bottled drinks, and a few grab-and-go items at typical airport markups. Expect to pay a couple of dollars more than downtown Kona for the same soda or snack, but it beats boarding a 5-hour flight with nothing.
Hours matter here. If your flight out of KOA is at 8:00 p.m. or later, plan ahead because KBS Snackshop closes at 7:00 p.m. Early morning departures are also out of luck; the doors don’t open until 10:00 a.m. Hit a store in town first if you’re outside that window.
You won’t find hot meals or fresh sandwiches lined up in a case, so treat this as a backup for drinks, sweets, and basic munchies. Think bottled water, soft drinks, and candy to get you through a 5–6 hour West Coast leg, not a real lunch.
Quick tip: grab an extra bottle of water here before boarding; in-flight drink service on Kona runs can be slow once the cabin fills, and this is one of the last places in the Main Terminal to buy one after security.
