Bus 25

25 RMB gets you from T1 to central Kunming on Line 2

Airport Shuttle Bus Line 2 runs from Kunming Changshui T1 into the city for a flat 25 RMB, paid in cash at the counter or on board. Buses are standard city coaches with luggage storage underneath and usually depart every 20–30 minutes during the day, with reduced frequency late at night. Ride time into town typically lands in the 45–70 minute range depending on traffic on the airport expressway.

Unlike the shuttle to Kunming Railway Station, Line 2 targets other central districts, so it suits hotels that sit a few kilometers away from the main station zone but still inside the built-up core. The fare stays the same 25 RMB regardless of where you get off along the Line 2 route, which takes some stress out of dealing with taxi meters after a long flight. If you already know your hotel’s cross streets in Chinese, have them written down to match against the intermediate stops.

From T1 arrivals, follow the bus signs down to the designated airport shuttle area on the ground floor, usually marked with route boards listing “Line 2” and the 25 RMB price. First departure is typically within an hour of the earliest morning arrivals, and the last bus is often timed around the late-night bank of flights, but schedules shift seasonally, so check the current first/last bus times posted near the counter. Count on a few minutes to buy your ticket before boarding, especially if several widebodies land at once.

Inside the city, Line 2 makes several fixed stops, each announced in Mandarin and sometimes on an LED display with Chinese characters; fares do not change between stops, still 25 RMB. If your hotel is 1–2 km from a Line 2 stop, you can usually finish the trip with a short 10–20 RMB metered taxi or a quick rideshare hop. That combo still undercuts a direct airport taxi, which can easily run 80–120 RMB into central Kunming depending on traffic.

Tip: Print or screenshot your hotel name and address in Chinese characters and show it to the ticket clerk at T1; they can usually point you to the closest Line 2 stop so you don’t overshoot and waste 20–30 extra minutes backtracking.
