Relay

T1

Near domestic gates in T1, Relay is the grab-and-go stop

Relay in Terminal T1 sits in the main departures area after security and runs on typical airport hours, roughly from early-morning first waves through late-evening flights. It’s a standard airport newsstand-convenience hybrid: magazines, basic travel gear, packaged snacks, and bottled drinks under one roof, useful if you realize at the last minute that you forgot a cable or something to read on a 3‑hour Kunming departure.

Expect prices around 10–20 CNY for bottled water and soft drinks and 15–40 CNY for most snack items, which is slightly above downtown Kunming but normal for KMG. Shelves usually carry instant noodles, chips, biscuits, and a few grab-and-go bakery items, enough to patch you through a 2‑hour delay if airline catering looks questionable. Don’t come here expecting fresh hot food or barista coffee; this is more minimart than café.

Because Relay is post‑security in T1, you can stop in after clearing checks and still be at most a 5–10 minute walk from most domestic gates in the terminal. If you need basic electronics, look for generic USB cables, power banks, and simple headphones; branded gear is limited and often 10–20% higher than city shops. Printed materials skew toward Chinese titles with a smaller English section, fine for a 90‑minute read on a short regional hop.

Practical tip: buy water and any last snacks here in T1 before heading to your gate area, since options thin out once you reach the far ends of the pier and queues at smaller kiosks spike just before boarding time on full evening departures.
