Pu'er Tea Shop

T1

Gate-side in T1, Pu'er Tea Shop is all about Yunnan leaves

Right in Kunming Changshui’s T1 concourse, Pu'er Tea Shop leans hard into local tea culture. Shelves are stacked with compressed Pu'er cakes from Yunnan, plus loose-leaf tins you can stash in a carry-on. Staff usually speak basic English and can point you toward raw (sheng) versus ripe (shou) Pu'er if you ask. Expect airport pricing, but still lower than many downtown tourist tea houses.

Most tea cakes here come in the 100 g to 357 g range, so you can pick something under the 200 g customs threshold for several countries. Look for clearly printed harvest years on the wrappers; the older the year, the higher the price jumps. There are also sampler packs with 5–10 mini tuocha pieces that run cheaper and pack flatter in a laptop bag.

They often run simple tastings at the counter using small gaiwan cups, usually 2–3 teas at a time. If you have 15–20 minutes before boarding from T1, it’s enough to taste, decide, and still repack your bag. Bring a card: they accept UnionPay, Visa, and Mastercard, and receipts print in both Chinese and English.

Watch the packaging weight printed in grams on the back label so you don’t accidentally load up more than your airline’s cabin baggage allowance from KMG. If you only want a quick gift, grab a 100 g boxed Pu'er near the register and skip the fancier cakes deeper in the shop.
