Subway

T1

Only Western sandwich chain in KMG’s T1

In Kunming Changshui’s T1, Subway stands out as the rare place where you can grab a familiar sub instead of another bowl of rice or noodles. It’s airside in the main departures area of Terminal 1, so you’re fine staying past security before you eat.

Expect the standard Subway setup: a counter with 6-inch and 12-inch subs, basic salads, and cookies. Prices run higher than downtown Kunming, with a 6-inch sub typically around 35–45 RMB and combos pushing past 50 RMB. If you’ve just flown in from a long-haul and want something predictable before a domestic hop, this is one of the few Western fast-food options you’ll actually spot in T1.

Menu boards usually show the common international items like tuna, ham, and veggie, along with a couple of China-only options that change from time to time. Bread choices are more limited than in North America; don’t be surprised if they’re down to 2–3 types during off-peak hours. Drinks are straightforward: fountain soft drinks, bottled water, and sometimes canned tea, all in the 8–15 RMB range.

Peak times at Kunming Changshui are late morning and early evening, and that’s when this Subway can develop a short line of 5–10 people. Staff tend to move orders through fast, so wait times stay under 10–15 minutes even when it looks busy. Seating is shared with the general terminal area, so you’re often grabbing one of the nearest public tables rather than dedicated Subway chairs.

Tip: If you have under 20 minutes before boarding from a nearby T1 gate, order a 6-inch cold sub and skip toasted; it comes out faster and travels better back to the gate.
