¥400–¥600 gyudon bowls right in Kansai T1
Matsuya in Kansai Airport T1 runs like any city branch: quick-service counter, ticket machine ordering, and beef bowls landing in front of you in under 5 minutes. It sits in Terminal 1 after check-in, so you can grab a tray on the way to security without detouring into a sit-down restaurant.
The core move here is the standard gyudon set: thin-sliced beef and onions over rice for around ¥400–¥600 depending on size. You can bump it up with miso soup and a raw egg or soft-boiled egg for another ¥100–¥150. Portions are predictable chain-level, so you know exactly what you’re getting if you’ve eaten at Matsuya in Tokyo or Osaka.
Service runs early to late in T1, matching the morning departures and late-night arrivals, so you can hit it before a 07:00 flight or after landing on a 22:00 arrival. Turnover is fast; even with a short queue of 5–10 people, you’re usually sitting within 10 minutes and done in 20. That makes it workable on a 60–90 minute layover.
Menu boards are in Japanese with photos, and most branches at KIX also show prices clearly in yen next to each dish. If you want something milder, the curry rice plates sit in the ¥500–¥700 range and use the same rice base. Drinks are simple: water and tea self-serve, plus a few soft drinks in the ¥150–¥200 band.
There aren’t many complaints in reviews, mostly because it behaves like every other Matsuya: bright lights, counter seating, and food that hits the table hot but not fancy. No table service and no reservations, and you’ll smell a bit like grilled beef if you sit near the kitchen window. Tip here: decide your order from the overhead photos before you reach the ticket machine so you don’t hold up the line.
