Rammagerdin

Gate area in Terminal 1, near departures, is where Rammagerdin sits

This Icelandic craft shop sits airside in Terminal 1 at KEF, on the Schengen side, so you pass it after security rather than on arrival. It’s one of the few places in the terminal focused almost entirely on local design and souvenirs rather than generic duty free. If you want something that feels actually Icelandic before you board, this is the place to walk by.

Rammagerdin leans hard into Icelandic-made gifts: think wool accessories, prints, ceramics, and smaller art pieces branded with Reykjavik or Iceland themes. Prices land above supermarket souvenir level, more in the mid- to higher range for the airport, so expect to pay more than at Bonus or Kronan in town but less than gallery pricing downtown. You’ll see plenty of items sized to fit into a personal item or 40 x 30 x 15 cm carry-on.

Opening hours generally track KEF’s bank of departures, roughly early morning through the late-night transatlantic wave, though there isn’t a hard posted close time like 22:00. If you’re on a 06:00–08:00 flight window, it’s usually already trading by the time you clear security. Late-night departures around 23:00 sometimes catch it closed, so don’t leave gift buying until your final walk to the gate.

There’s no pressure to buy big pieces here; small magnets under 1,000 ISK, postcards, and keychains sit near the entrance, while framed prints and textiles run quite a bit higher. Card payments in ISK, EUR, and USD are accepted, and tap works. If your layover is tight, plan to hit Rammagerdin straight after duty free, before you get stuck in the long line at Joe & The Juice by gate C.
