T1 $$$$ Post-security

Gate-side in T1, Caldera is your main sit-down option

Past security in Terminal T1, Caldera is the airport’s Greek taverna stand-in before you board. It sits in the main departures area, a short walk from most gates, so you can keep an eye on a 30–40 minute boarding window without stressing about distance. Prices land in the mid-range ($$), more than a takeaway snack stand, less than a white-tablecloth splurge in town.

Caldera leans local and Greek: expect things like Greek salads with actual Santorini tomatoes, simple grilled meats, and mezze-style starters rather than burgers and fries. You’ll find wine from Cycladic labels by the glass, plus beer and soft drinks, which helps if you still have an hour before a late-evening Aegean or Ryanair departure. Portions run medium-sized, so a salad and one shared plate will usually work for two people who already ate in Fira.

Service timelines matter here. In normal traffic, mains come out in roughly 15–20 minutes, so don’t sit down if boarding starts within the next 25 minutes. Figure around €10–€15 for a basic dish and closer to €20–€25 per person if you add wine or dessert. There’s table service plus a visible prep area, which makes it easier to track progress on your food if your flight time creeps closer.

Order the straightforward stuff: Greek salad, grilled chicken or pork skewers, or cold mezze plates that handle a tight clock better than anything fried. If your connection time shrinks under 20 minutes, pivot to a coffee and a quick bite instead of a full meal; staff can usually turn those out in under 5–10 minutes. Card payments are standard, but keep a €5–€10 note in case a card terminal acts up.

Tip: Grab a gate-side seat facing the main departure screens; delays at JTR pop up late, and you don’t want to miss a sudden gate change while you’re mid-forkful at Caldera.
