T1’s main café-bar Caldera sits just past security
Caldera sits airside in Terminal 1 at JTR, a few steps after security and passport control, so you can keep an eye on gate screens while you eat. It runs through most of the operating day in summer when flights are dense, then shortens hours in the quieter winter schedule, roughly tracking the first and last departures.
A basic espresso starts around €3, with cappuccinos and freddos a bit higher, so budget €5–€7 for coffee and a pastry. The food menu leans simple: sandwiches, toasties, and packaged snacks geared to short-haul flights. Portions skew light, so treat it as a pre-flight bite rather than a full lunch unless you double up on items.
Beer and wine by the glass typically land in the €5–€7 range, with a few Greek labels in the mix. Expect standard soft drinks, bottled water, and juices in the €2–€4 band. If you need to kill 30–40 minutes before boarding, this is one of the few sit-down options in the small terminal, so seats can turn over quickly when multiple departures bunch up.
Service speed tracks how many flights are on the board; when two or three departures cluster within 60 minutes, lines at the counter form and a sandwich plus drink can take 10–15 minutes. Card payments are widely accepted, but having a €10 note or some coins helps if contactless terminals act up, which does happen occasionally on the island.
Bring a refillable bottle and buy one large water at Caldera before your flight, as 500 ml bottles on board often cost more than the €1–€2 you’ll pay here. That single purchase usually covers you through a 3–4 hour hop back to mainland Europe.
