Kauai

B ★ 4

Terminal B’s only health-focused counter sits under the Kauai sign

Kauai in Terminal B gives JNB a rare lighter option once you’re past security. It sits airside in the domestic section, so you can grab a salad or smoothie after clearing checks instead of defaulting to fried stuff near the gates. The concept is simple: fast-service wraps, bowls, and juices you can eat at the small counter or carry to your gate.

The menu leans on salads, grain bowls, wraps, and made-to-order smoothies, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan picks clearly marked. Prices run mid-range for JNB: expect roughly ZAR 80–120 for a wrap or salad and around ZAR 50–70 for a smoothie. Portions skew more “healthy café” than “full sit-down restaurant,” so plan accordingly if you’re really hungry before a long-haul out of Terminal A later.

Kauai’s rating hovers around 4 out of 5, which tracks with what you see at their city locations: consistent ingredients, not gourmet. Fresh-pressed juices and smoothies are the safer bet if you’re worried about timing, since they come out quickly. Warm items like breakfast wraps can take an extra 5–10 minutes during the domestic morning rush, so build that into your walk to the B gates.

Seating is limited to a short counter and a few stools right by the unit in Terminal B, and power outlets are scarce. This is a grab-and-go stop, not a laptop session. If your flight boards from a remote stand, remember that buses at JNB often start loading 25–30 minutes before departure, so don’t order something that needs a fork and a table at T-20.

Practical tip: if you have a long layover and want Kauai before an international flight from Terminal A, clear to B first, eat here, then allow at least 15–20 minutes to walk back to your A gate.
