In T1, this is the sit-down steak option before domestic flights

On the departures side of Terminal 1, Ginza Grill Cardinal fills the Western grill niche in a building dominated by Japanese sets and noodles. It’s post-security in HND T1, so you’re already through checks when you sit down for steak or hamburger steak instead of yet another katsu or udon bowl. Figure mid-range prices ($$) by airport standards and a solid-but-not-special rating around 3 out of 5.

The menu leans hard into hamburger steak and simple beef plates, and reviews keep circling back to those dishes as the reason to come. Expect a hamburger steak set with rice and sides to land in the ¥1,500–¥2,000 range, with steak plates running higher. Portions run larger than the typical Japanese teishoku tray, which lines up with one review calling it “good if you’re really hungry.” Beer and soft drinks are standard add-ons and bump the total quickly.

The tradeoff: quality is fine but not remarkable, and several diners call it “a bit overpriced for the quality, but that’s airport pricing.” If you’re picky about steak doneness, be specific when you order; Japan defaults softer than many US travelers expect. If you don’t care about Western food, you’ll eat better yen-for-yen at one of the Japanese counters elsewhere in T1.

Order the hamburger steak with vegetables and rice if you want the house specialty and the most filling plate. Skip anything that’s trying too hard to be premium steak; the kitchen does everyday grill better than steakhouse cuts. Service is quick by sit-down standards, but still budget 40–50 minutes curb to gate in T1, including eating, so don’t drop in with a 25-minute boarding call already on your screen.
