T1 pre-flight stop that feels closer to city café than food court
La Place sits airside in Terminal T1 at Geneva, just past central security, so you can grab something decent within 5–10 minutes of most Schengen gates. It runs through the daytime bank of departures, typically opening around the first wave of morning flights and closing after the late evening European runs finish. Think self-service counter, fresh-prepped items, and quicker turnover than the sit-down options closer to the main shopping area.
Food here skews lighter than the burger-and-fries crowd in T1, with salads, sandwiches, and hot dishes usually landing in the CHF 12–22 range. You’ll see made-in-front-of-you salads with plenty of veg, focaccia-style sandwiches, and the occasional pasta or curry tray on the hot line. Coffee and fresh juices cost more than downtown Geneva, but not wildly out of line with the rest of GVA. Portions run European-medium, so a salad plus drink works for a real meal before a 2–3 hour flight.
Drinks cover the basics: espresso-based coffee, bottled soft drinks, juices, and a few grab-and-go snacks stacked by the till. Expect an espresso around CHF 3–4 and bottled drinks at airport-standard markups. There’s usually enough seating for a quick 20–30 minute stop, but in the 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 departure peaks, you may end up hovering for a spot or taking food back toward your gate area in T1.
Service runs counter-style, so you order, pay, then carry your tray to shared tables or high-tops. Contactless payment works fine, and they’re used to quick turnarounds for tight connections under 45 minutes. The hot dishes can run low after the main lunch rush around 13:30, so earlier is better if you want something beyond sandwiches and salads.
Tip: if your gate is in the later-numbered 50s in T1, pick up your food at La Place on the way and eat at the often-quieter seating areas near those gates.
