Route 39 hits GNV’s terminal every 60 minutes on weekdays

RTS Route 39 is the only Gainesville city bus serving Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) Terminal T, running roughly every 60 minutes on weekdays. The bus stop sits just outside the terminal near the arrivals area, so you roll your bag maybe 100–150 feet from baggage claim to the curb. This is the budget move into town if you don’t want to pay $20–$30 for a rideshare.

Service on Route 39 typically runs Monday through Friday, with first buses starting around early morning rush and the last trips ending in the early evening; exact times vary by semester, so check the current RTS schedule for your specific date. There is usually no late-night service after roughly 7–8 p.m., so for those 9:30 p.m. arrivals, you’re looking at Uber, Lyft, or a cab instead of the bus.

Standard RTS adult fares sit in the low single digits per ride (think a couple of dollars), and exact cash is recommended because drivers don’t make change. Many University of Florida students ride free by swiping their Gator 1 Card, and some local passes or reduced fares apply if you qualify. If you’re coming in with only cards, buy a pass through the RTS mobile app before you reach the stop.

Route 39 usually links GNV with downtown Gainesville and the University of Florida area in about 25–40 minutes depending on traffic on NE 39th Avenue and Waldo Road. The route is a normal city bus, so expect standard front-door boarding, two steps up, and no underfloor luggage bays. Overhead space is limited, so one checked-size suitcase plus a carry-on is about the most you’ll want to wrangle on board.

Because Route 39 is hourly, missing a bus can cost you a full 60 minutes. Build the buffer: aim to be at the airport stop 5–10 minutes before the scheduled time, especially in the afternoon when traffic around NE 39th Avenue can slow things down. If your flight lands after the last departure of the day, skip waiting at the curb and head straight to rideshare pickup instead.
