Metered rides wait right outside T’s baggage claim doors

Airport Taxis line up in the ground transportation area outside Terminal T’s baggage claim, so you walk maybe 1–2 minutes from the carousel and you’re at the queue. Cars sit there during normal flight banks, and you don’t need to book anything in advance. It’s a straight walk out the exit doors, follow the “Ground Transportation” signs, and you’ll see the marked cabs on the curb.

Fares start at $2.50, with the meter running from there based on distance and time. That $2.50 minimum means even a super short hop to nearby hotels off NE 39th Ave or Waldo Road stays on the low side compared with some app surges. You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride; most airport cabs in Gainesville take both cash and cards, but have a card ready just in case the driver prefers it.

Pickup is curbside only at Terminal T, since GNV has a single compact terminal and no separate taxi island or central garage. Once you step out at arrivals, taxis use the same general curb area as hotel shuttles and ride-shares, so look specifically for cars marked as authorized airport taxis. That “authorized” label matters here: those are the vehicles cleared by the airport to pick up on property.

Reservations are not required for Airport Taxis at Gainesville Regional, which helps on late arrivals when you just want to get off the plane and go. If your flight lands on one of the evening banks around 7:00–9:00 p.m., you usually see a few cars already staged. On very late operations, past 11:00 p.m., you might wait 5–10 minutes while a cab cycles back from a drop-off, but you’re still generally walking straight from gate to curb to car.

Tip: if your group has checked bags, send one person straight to the ground transportation area once you enter baggage claim, while the others wait at the carousel; that 5-minute head start can put you first in line at the Airport Taxis stand when a full regional jet empties out.
