RTS Route 26

City bus

Route 26 runs from GNV to Downtown every 30–60 minutes

RTS Route 26 is the only city bus that stops directly at Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV), serving Terminal T at the main arrivals curb. Service typically runs every 30 to 60 minutes on weekdays, with reduced frequency on weekends and in university breaks, so check the current RTS schedule before you bank on it for an early flight.

The bus stop sits just outside baggage claim at GNV, about a 1–2 minute walk from the main exit doors. Look for the RTS sign marked “26” on the right-hand side as you step out of the terminal, near where ride-shares line up. There is no need to cross any major roads; the stop is on the airport side of the access lane.

Single-ride fares on RTS buses are typically under $2, and UF students, faculty, and staff with a valid Gator 1 Card usually ride at no additional cost. Drivers accept cash in small bills, and there are no ticket machines inside Terminal T, so bring exact change if you are paying on board. There is no extra fee for standard luggage or backpacks.

Route 26 connects GNV to Downtown Gainesville and the University of Florida area with multiple stops along NE Waldo Road and University Avenue. The ride from the airport to the downtown transfer area on SE 2nd Avenue usually takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic and time of day. You can transfer there to several other RTS routes that cover most of the city limits.

Boarding is front-door only on Route 26, and you pay or tap your Gator 1 Card as you get on. Buses generally have space for 1–2 suitcases per rider in the low-floor area near the front, but there is no dedicated luggage rack, so keep bags close and out of the aisle. Seating is first-come, first-served, and drivers wait only a few seconds at each stop.

To go from GNV to town on Route 26, use this simple sequence: 1) Exit Terminal T baggage claim and walk 1–2 minutes to the RTS stop. 2) Check the posted schedule or the RTS app for the next Route 26 bus. 3) Have your Gator 1 Card or about $2 cash ready before the bus arrives. 4) Board at the front door and pay or tap as you enter. 5) Ride 20–30 minutes, then exit at your stop in Downtown or near UF.

For early morning departures from GNV, aim for a Route 26 bus that gets you to the terminal at least 90 minutes before your scheduled flight time, since the 30–60 minute headways mean missing one bus can burn a big chunk of your pre-flight buffer.
