Daily rates at Estacionamento Econômico beat the main GIG lots

Estacionamento Econômico is the long-stay option at Rio de Janeiro–Galeão (GIG), serving both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 with lower daily prices than the premium garages. It targets trips of several days or more, with day rates that work out far cheaper than paying the standard hourly tariffs in the covered decks closest to the terminal doors. If you’re leaving the car for a week, this is the category that usually makes sense on cost alone.

The lot operates 24 hours a day, matching GIG’s round-the-clock flight schedule for both T1 and T2. That means you can park for an 02:00 red-eye or land on a 23:30 arrival and still get to your car without worrying about closing hours. Pay stations and exits stay open through the night, and lighting remains on across the lot, which matters if you’re collecting the car after midnight.

Estacionamento Econômico sits in the airport parking zone rather than directly under the terminals, so expect a short walk or internal transport link of a few hundred meters between the lot and Terminals 1 and 2. You trade that extra 5–10 minutes on foot for more reasonable daily pricing compared with the closest multi-story structure. Signage inside the airport road system usually labels it clearly as the economic or long-stay option.

Payment follows the usual Brazilian airport pattern: you take a ticket on entry, then pay at an automatic machine or attended booth before driving out. Keep the ticket dry and handy, because a lost-ticket fee can run higher than a normal day rate. Credit cards commonly accepted in Brazil, like Visa and Mastercard, are typically supported, and some machines print receipts with the exact entry and exit times down to the minute.

One practical tip: before you lock up, take a quick photo that shows your row marker or nearest sign plus your license plate, and note which terminal (1 or 2) you plan to return through so you follow the right walking route back to the car.
