Gate-side snack stop near T1 departures
By the time you reach departures in Terminal T1, Cockpit is one of the easier food options to spot in the main public area. It runs on typical daytime airport hours, roughly from early morning check-in waves through the last evening departures. Think quick bites and drinks rather than a long sit-down meal.
Cockpit focuses on simple food and beverage: coffee, soft drinks, beer, and basic bar-style snacks. Prices track with Madeira airport norms, so expect to pay more than Funchal city cafés but less than many big-hub airports on the mainland. It works fine for a 15–20 minute stop to kill time while someone checks in or drops a rental car downstairs.
Seating is limited and right off the T1 flow, so you’re eating within sight of the main passenger stream. That means it’s easy to keep an eye on the departures board for your TAP, easyJet, or Ryanair flight while you finish a drink. It’s landside, so you still need to allow at least 15 minutes to clear security afterward.
If you prefer to eat after security, T1 has more options airside, including spots closer to the gates with better views of the runway. Cockpit makes more sense for an early coffee while waiting for a 06:00–08:00 departure, or when you’re saying goodbye to someone who isn’t flying. One tip: order and pay at the counter in one go; staff move quickly and don’t linger at tables for add-ons.
