Gate-side impulse stop in T1 for goofy cow merch

Ale-Hop in Terminal 1 at FNC runs on pure impulse buys: big black-and-white cow at the door, racks of Madeira‑themed souvenirs, and lots of under‑€15 trinkets. It sits airside in T1, so you hit it after security, before most long-haul gates. Think beach toys, travel pillows, phone cables, and novelty gifts stacked tight in a small footprint.

Pricing is mid-range for an airport shop: many keyrings and magnets under €5, T‑shirts and caps usually around €10–€20, and some bulkier items like backpacks closer to €30. Stock rotates by season, but you almost always see Madeira slogans, island maps, and playful animal prints tied to the brand’s cow theme. Card payment is standard; staff typically handle contactless and mobile wallets quickly.

Ale-Hop is one of the more visible souvenir spots in T1, so it works for last-minute gifts when boarding is in 30–40 minutes and you don’t want to backtrack to landside shops. Quality is firmly “fun gift shop” rather than artisan craft: expect printed mugs, notebooks, beach towels, and umbrellas more than handmade embroidery or wine. Snacks are limited; this is about objects, not food.

Figure 10–15 minutes to walk in, scan a couple of aisles, and pay, even with a short line of 4–5 people. Tip: if you need anything bulky like a beach ball or large tote, grab it here in T1 rather than hoping for more options closer to your gate; downslope from security, choice only narrows and prices usually creep up.
