By gate area in T1, Newsstand is your last-minute grab spot
Newsstand sits airside in Florence Airport’s T1, just past security and on the way to the main gates. It runs through typical daytime flight banks, usually opening around the first morning departures and staying open into the evening when the last Schengen flights go out. If you cleared security too quickly and have 10–15 minutes before boarding, this is the shop you actually have time to reach and get back.
You’ll find international magazines, Italian newspapers, and basic paperbacks focused on city breaks and Tuscany, all in a space that’s smaller than many duty free corners in T1. Pricing tracks standard airport levels, with magazines a bit above downtown Florence kiosk rates and paperbacks closer to big-chain bookstore pricing. If you want a local paper like “La Nazione Firenze” before your flight, grab it here because the landside kiosks in Florence close earlier.
Newsstand also stocks basic travel extras: phone charging cables compatible with EU outlets, small headphones, and simple stationery items like pens and A5 notebooks. Snacks lean toward grab-and-go: packaged cookies, chocolate bars, and bottled drinks that fit easily under the seat in front of you on an A320 or E190. Don’t expect full tech gear or large gifts; think essentials to survive a 2–3 hour leg to a European hub.
Plan one practical move: hit the restroom near your gate first, then swing by Newsstand on the way back so you’re not juggling bags, purchases, and a last-minute bathroom stop when boarding for your FLR–CDG or FLR–FRA flight is already showing “final call.”
