Gate-side ceramics near T1 departures
This small Ceramics Gifts Corner shop sits airside in Florence Airport’s T1, a few minutes’ walk from the main departures security checkpoint. Shelves are packed tight with painted plates, espresso cups, and small decorative tiles that clearly lean into Tuscan motifs. It feels more gift shop than gallery, but works when you’ve got 10–15 minutes before boarding and need something that actually says “Florence” on it.
Most pieces run in the €10–€40 range, with tiny magnets and mini tiles at the low end and serving platters or multi-piece cup sets pushing higher. Stock skews to bright, traditional designs: lemons, olives, sunflowers, and countryside scenes you’ll recognize from city-center tourist shops around the Duomo. If you want a single souvenir that looks more substantial than a keyring but still fits in a carry-on, the espresso cups and saucers at around €12–€18 a set hit the sweet spot.
Quality is mixed but decent for airport retail at FLR; you’re not getting artisan-boutique work from Via dei Calzaiuoli, but glazing and painting generally look clean from an arm’s length check. Pieces are light enough that a couple of plates won’t blow past a 7–8 kg cabin bag limit. Staff bag items with extra paper wrap, though if you’re connecting on a long itinerary, ask for a double wrap and place anything fragile in the middle of your clothes. The smart move: snap a quick photo of the receipt with prices in case something chips and you need proof for a claim later.
