Rideshare

5–10 minutes from T1 arrivals to an Uber pickup

Uber works at Faro Airport (FAO) T1 and uses the regular public pickup lanes outside arrivals, about 150–250 meters from the baggage hall exit. You request the ride after you clear customs; drivers are usually waiting within 3–8 minutes in daytime, a bit longer around weekend evenings in July and August.

From FAO to central Faro (around the marina or train station), Uber rides typically run 9–15 EUR and take about 10–15 minutes, traffic and lights included. A run out to Quarteira or Vilamoura usually comes in at 25–35 EUR and 25–35 minutes, while Albufeira often shows at 35–55 EUR and 35–45 minutes.

The app uses the airport’s formal name, “Aeroporto de Faro” or “Faro Airport (FAO),” and the terminal code is T1 only, so you don’t have to pick between terminals. Drop-off for departures is directly outside the T1 check-in doors, roughly a 1–3 minute walk from the main security checkpoint.

Prices swing with demand; during busy summer Saturdays between about 10:00 and 18:00, you can see surge multipliers that push a Faro city ride over 18–20 EUR and an Albufeira ride above 60 EUR. Very early mornings, roughly 04:00–06:00, sometimes show fewer cars, so waits can stretch to 10–15 minutes.

Uber at FAO supports standard card payments in-app, and many drivers also accept in-app tip only, not cash, so don’t count on using a 50 EUR note. Tolls on the A22 (Via do Infante) may add 2–5 EUR depending on route and exit; you’ll see this broken out in the fare estimate before you confirm.

If you land in a group of four adults with large checked bags, filter for larger car options in the app; standard sedans around FAO sometimes struggle with 4×23 kg suitcases. Families with child seats usually pre-book a local transfer instead, as Uber’s Portugal service doesn’t reliably offer dedicated baby-seat categories from Faro.

Step-by-step from arrivals to your Uber is simple:

  • 1. Exit baggage claim at T1 and walk straight past the main meet-and-greet area for about 50–80 meters.
  • 2. Open Uber, set pickup as “Faro Airport” or use GPS, and confirm gate/door if the app asks.
  • 3. Follow signs to the public car park / pickup zone directly outside; it’s about a 2–3 minute walk.
  • 4. Check the license plate and car model against the app before getting in.
  • 5. At the end, verify the fare in-app and rate the driver before you walk off.

One last tip: if prices look inflated when you land, grab a seat in the public hall by the cafes for 10–15 minutes; surge around FAO often drops once a couple of flights clear.
