Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) airport buses are the rock‑bottom cost option from Indira Gandhi International Airport, with typical fares in the Rs 50–100 range depending on route and distance. Services run from all three terminals (T1, T2, T3), but they’re most useful if you already ride DTC buses elsewhere in Delhi and can handle basic Hindi route boards and crowded stops.

From T3, most DTC buses stop outside the arrivals level, beyond the official taxi lanes and near the general city bus stands, roughly a 5–10 minute walk once you exit customs. From T1 and T2, look for the green DTC buses at the public transport area signed for “City Bus / DTC,” usually shared with cluster and airport feeder routes. These are standard city buses, not air‑conditioned coaches, and they stop multiple times before reaching central Delhi.

Figure at least 60–90 minutes into central areas such as Connaught Place (CP) in normal daytime traffic, and longer than 90 minutes if you hit peak rush hours around 09:00–11:00 or 17:00–20:00. The big trade‑off versus the Airport Express Metro, which can do the airport–New Delhi station stretch in about 20 minutes, is predictability; buses sit in the same jams as everyone else on NH48 and the Ring Road.

You typically pay the conductor on board in cash, with small notes like Rs 10 and Rs 20 making life easier because change is hit‑or‑miss once the bus fills. Some routes link the airport to major hubs such as Dhaula Kuan, where you can spend another Rs 10–30 to change buses toward places like Karol Bagh, South Ex, or AIIMS. If you already know your DTC route numbers in the city, treat the airport as just another origin point.

There’s no reliable published late‑night timetable; after around 23:00 the frequency drops, and you can wait 30–45 minutes between buses, especially from T1 and T2. Daytime headways are often in the 15–30 minute band, but that swings with traffic and staffing. These are not airport‑special buses, so expect standing loads, loud horns, and frequent intermediate stops, even right after leaving the terminal access roads.

One practical tip: before you walk out of T3 or T1, spend 2–3 minutes on your phone to confirm which DTC route number you want and the Hindi/English name of your stop, then screenshot it; showing that screenshot to the conductor or fellow passengers usually works better than trying to pronounce the destination over engine noise once you’re already rolling.
