Big suitcases and kids are easiest in a DEL airport cab

Taxis run 24/7 from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), and they’re the simplest way to move a family plus three or four big bags straight from T3 arrivals to any hotel in central Delhi without changing lines or dragging luggage through stations.

You’ll find official taxi counters in T3 arrivals, just past customs and baggage claim, and again outside T1 and T2; walk to the prepaid booth, tell them your destination (Connaught Place, Aerocity, Gurugram, Noida, etc.), pay there, and you’ll get a printed slip with the car’s details and a fixed fare in INR.

From T3 to central Delhi (Connaught Place or New Delhi Railway Station), a standard non-AC or basic AC taxi fare sold at the airport counter usually lands in the ₹500–₹800 range, and the drive takes about 35–60 minutes depending on traffic on NH48 and the Ring Road.

A ride from T3 to Aerocity hotels along NH8 can be as short as 10–15 minutes with a fare around ₹250–₹400, which beats shuttles if you’re arriving at 23:00 with sleepy kids and two 23 kg checked bags plus strollers.

For longer hauls to Gurugram (DLF Cyber City, Udyog Vihar, Sector 29) or to Noida across the Yamuna, plan on 45–75 minutes and fares commonly in the ₹800–₹1,500 band, depending on distance and car type printed on your prepaid receipt.

If you’re using a taxi just to move between terminals, T3 to T1 or T2 usually runs about 10–20 minutes by road, and regulars still default to cabs late at night when the official inter-terminal bus is infrequent and they don’t want to haul baggage onto a crowded coach.

Most airport cabs can handle at least two large checked suitcases plus two cabin bags in the boot, and larger MPV/van options at the counter are worth asking for if you’re a group of four with three or more 23 kg bags.

Watch the meter if you skip the prepaid booth and grab a metered cab from the rank outside T3 at 02:00, and avoid unmarked cars or anyone quoting a cash-only off-meter fare that’s more than ₹1,500 to central Delhi.

Practical tip: keep ₹100–₹500 in small notes ready before you leave baggage claim so you can pay tolls or tips quickly, and take a quick photo of the taxi’s number plate and the printed prepaid receipt before you leave the curb.
