Turn left after CPT immigration if you want BA Terraces
Once you clear immigration in Cape Town International’s International Terminal, ignore the big Bidvest signs pointing right and turn left down the pier. At the far left end, upstairs, you hit a small lounge cluster: the British Airways – Terraces lounge and a “premium” Bidvest/Premier lounge sitting almost side by side.
This is the default lounge for British Airways Club World passengers on overnight flights to London, with doors typically open from early evening into the last BA departure window around 23:00–00:00. Access is tied to your BA ticket or status, so Priority Pass and walk‑ups get pushed to Bidvest instead.
The space sits on the upper level above the main departures floor, close to the end gates on the left‑hand international pier, so walking time from lounge to most BA gates runs about 5–8 minutes. It’s airside and past security and immigration, so you can stay until around 40 minutes before boarding without stressing about queues.
Food quality moves around “solid pre‑flight snack” rather than “eat instead of dinner,” with a small buffet of hot items and cold bites that suits a 21:00–23:00 departure pattern. Expect basics like finger sandwiches, a hot tray or two, and desserts; if you want a proper restaurant meal, the terminal options downstairs often beat the lounge.
Drinks skew standard BA lounge: self‑pour local wines, mainstream spirits, and the usual soft drinks in fridges. Coffee is via machine, fine for a quick hit before a 12‑hour CPT–LHR sector but nothing worth turning up early for. If wine matters to you, the South African bottles here are usually the safest bet.
Regulars often walk past the main, signed Bidvest near the centre of departures and head left instead, then decide between Terraces and the upstairs premium Bidvest based on crowding. On busy summer evenings when the BA42 is full, swapping to Bidvest next door can mean an actual spare seat and a quieter pre‑flight hour.
Watch out: this lounge has had full closure stretches, especially around COVID, with BA premium passengers diverted to Bidvest and even agents saying reopening was “up to the airport.” If you’re flying soon, check the current status on the day and be ready to use the premium Bidvest upstairs as plan B.
Practical tip: after clearing immigration, budget an extra 5 minutes to walk left to the far end, ride the escalator up, and check both Terraces and the adjacent premium Bidvest before committing your pre‑flight hour.
