British Airways - Terraces

International

Far-left after CPT immigration, British Airways - Terraces sits next to the “premium” Bidvest upstairs cluster

Once you clear immigration in the International terminal at Cape Town (CPT), ignore the big Bidvest signs pointing right and instead turn left; British Airways - Terraces is at the far-left end of departures, on the same upstairs landing as a secondary Bidvest/Premier lounge. This cluster is the main oneworld base here when BA is running its international services out of CPT.

Access is standard British Airways: Business/First passengers and BA/oneworld elites get in, with no Priority Pass access published for Terraces itself, which pushes non-status passengers toward Bidvest. Practical rule: if you don’t have BA on your boarding pass or oneworld status, assume you’re headed to Bidvest, not this lounge.

Opening hours in CPT can shift with BA’s long-haul schedule, and there have been stretches where Terraces is shut entirely on certain days or seasons, especially outside peak UK–South Africa periods. During one closure, even the “alternative” Bidvest next door was shut at the same time, leaving BA Club passengers with no clear premium option despite paid business-class tickets.

The airport’s own signage mostly directs people to the main Bidvest in the opposite direction, so regular BA flyers walk left after immigration by default and check both doors: first the BA Terraces, then the neighboring upstairs Bidvest/Premier. That habit pays off on busy evenings around London departures, when one lounge can be rammed and the other still has seating and quicker bar service.

When Terraces has been closed, BA has quietly relied on Bidvest to handle premium customers instead, sometimes with reopening dates showing up first on Priority Pass listings rather than any BA communication. One FlyerTalk report cited a Priority Pass notice of Bidvest reopening on 19 October while BA’s own channels still showed little clarity.

There’s limited public detail on the exact food lineup inside Terraces at CPT, but reviews put it broadly in line with smaller BA outstation lounges: hot snacks at core evening departure times, plus self-serve drinks and basic workspace seating. If you walk up and see catering running low close to the London departure, step next door to Bidvest/Premier, which often has a slightly broader hot buffet on peak nights.

Tip: After passport control at CPT International, budget an extra 5 minutes to walk left to the BA/Bidvest cluster and check which lounge is actually open before you commit to a seat.
