Gate-side option in T2 when everything else is shut

Open “all flights” in Terminal T2, Captain's Sports Bar is the fallback when your departure from Cairns runs early morning or late at night and other outlets pull down the shutters. It sits airside after security, so you don’t need to leave the gate area once you’re through screening. Expect standard bar food, beer, wine, and basic spirits rather than anything fancy.

As a sit-down dining spot in T2, it works if you’ve got 45–90 minutes before boarding and want a seat instead of pacing up and down the concourse. Pricing leans toward typical airport mark-ups: think pub-style mains in the mid-AUD$20s and drinks in the high single digits to low teens. Order at the counter, grab a buzzer, and they’ll bring food to the table.

Sports screens are usually tuned to Australian codes or cricket, so you can catch a live match or a replay right up until your flight’s boarding call appears on the T2 departure screens. Portions are decent enough for a real meal before a 3–4 hour sector up to Asia or down to the southern states, but the menu skews fried and heavy, so it’s not for a light pre-flight bite.
