Gates 1–8 in T1 all feed straight past Aelia Duty Free
If you’re flying international from Cairns T1, you walk by Aelia Duty Free right after outbound security and passport control. It opens for all international flights, including early-morning departures and late-night services, so you won’t find it shuttered on odd schedules.
Liquor and wine are the main draw here, with Australian spirits and regional rums often priced better than city bottleshops thanks to duty-free rules. You also get the standard global lineup of whisky, gin, and liqueurs; watch the per-person alcohol allowance for your destination before you stack a second 1L bottle at the counter.
Fragrance and cosmetics take up most of the floor space after the liquor section, with the usual big brands and travel-exclusive gift sets. Value is best on larger sizes and two-packs; single 50ml fragrances can be cheaper in town, especially when local chemists run sales. Electronics, headphones, and travel adapters sit in smaller racks near the registers and tend to be full RRP.
Food souvenirs lean heavily Australian: macadamias, chocolate-coated everything, and boxed Tim Tam multipacks. These are decent last-minute gifts if you’ve skipped Cairns city shops, but per-unit prices beat supermarket Coles or Woolworths only when you’re buying the bigger multi-box bundles.
Tip: If you want duty-free on arrival back into Cairns, pre-order online with Aelia for collection; otherwise, outbound T1 is your main chance and it’s easiest to shop after security, not at the landside counters.
