Starbucks

Gate-side air-con and caffeine are scarce in CGK Terminal 1

In Terminal 1 at Soekarno–Hatta, Starbucks is one of the few recognizable international coffee chains, so every domestic flyer seems to end up here. It sits airside in T1, so you’re already past security before you see the green logo. Expect standard Starbucks pricing pushed up for the airport: drinks often land 15–30% higher than Jakarta city branches, so a latte that’s low-40k in town can creep higher here.

Hours tend to track the domestic bank: early morning departures through late evening, roughly 05:00–22:00, but don’t count on a 24-hour operation in Terminal 1. The coffee tastes exactly like any Indonesian Starbucks, from a basic Americano to seasonal Frappuccino, so it’s the known-quantity option when local kiosks near your gate look risky. Queue length can be shorter than the Starbucks outlets in Terminal 3, but the smaller team here means drinks still come out slower than you’d expect.

Seating is the weak point. Reviews repeatedly mention that almost every chair is taken, often by people camping with luggage and no cups on the table. The result: a 30-seat café that functions more like a public waiting room for half the terminal. Regulars grab their cappuccino or cold brew, then walk straight back to the T1A/T1B gate areas and sit there instead of fighting for a table inside.

Watch out for the bill shock and the clock. Prices run above city level for both drinks and pastries, and several commuters say they’ve waited 10–15 minutes for a basic hot coffee even with only 3–4 people in line. If your boarding pass shows a tight 30-minute boarding window, skip the iced caramel macchiato and order something quick like a brewed coffee or canned drink from a nearby convenience stand.

Practical tip: order to-go, then carry your drink to the row of seats directly opposite your actual gate; you’ll get power outlets more often there than inside Starbucks itself.
