Taxi Typical city trips shouldn't exceed 120 pesos

120 pesos is a good ceiling for most Cebu City taxi rides

Metered taxis line up directly outside both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at Mactan Cebu International Airport, and for typical city trips the fare usually stays under ₱120. You pay exactly what the meter shows plus any small tolls, so there’s no fixed “airport premium” built into the ride.

Queues outside Terminal 2 can stretch 20–30 passengers deep at peak evening bank times, but even then most people clear the line in under 20 minutes. Dispatchers on the curb keep taxis moving, and cars pull in constantly from the airport holding area, so you rarely wait longer than that unless there’s heavy rain around Lapu-Lapu City.

The meter on Cebu airport taxis starts at roughly ₱40, then climbs based on distance and time in traffic, so a short hop to hotels in Lapu-Lapu City often lands in the ₱80–₱100 range. For runs across the bridge toward Cebu IT Park or Ayala Center, expect a bit more but still usually under that ₱120 guideline unless rush hour traffic really stalls.

Most drivers are fine with cash only, and many won’t have change for bills larger than ₱500, so carry smaller notes in the ₱20–₱100 range. Tipping isn’t mandatory; if the driver runs the meter correctly and drives sanely, locals tend to just round up by ₱10–₱20 rather than add a set percentage.

Rides from the airport into Cebu City can swing from 20 to 45 minutes depending on bridge traffic, with late night runs often cutting that in half compared with the 5–7 p.m. crunch. If you have a bus or ferry connection at Pier 1–3, pad in at least an extra 30 minutes on top of whatever Google Maps suggests.

Practical tip: before the car moves, point to the meter and say “meter po” so it’s switched on from the first meter drop and your final fare stays in that typical-under-₱120 band for most city trips.

Watch out for
  • Beware of private taxis charging high fares.
  • Always opt for metered taxis.
