Metered taxis still beat GrabCar on price at CEB

At Mactan Cebu (CEB), GrabCar covers both Terminal 1 (international) and Terminal 2 (domestic), but you usually pay more than a metered white taxi. A basic GrabCar ride into Cebu IT Park often runs around ₱300–₱400, while a metered taxi can land closer to ₱250, depending on traffic and time of day.

GrabCar pickup zones sit outside the public arrivals areas: follow the “Public Transport / Taxi” signs at T1 and T2 and then check your app for the exact pin before you walk out. Airport Wi‑Fi at CEB works in the arrivals halls, so you can book the ride before you step to the curb and avoid standing outside trying to get signal.

Grab operates 24/7 in Cebu City, but airport response times jump at 06:00–09:00 and 18:00–21:00 when long-haul flights bank in. During those peaks, expect 10–20 minutes for a driver to accept and arrive at T1 or T2. After midnight it can flip: short queues for white taxis, but a 15‑minute wait for a GrabCar because fewer drivers are online.

Step-by-step from touchdown to GrabCar looks like this:

  • 1. Clear immigration and customs at Terminal 1 or baggage claim at Terminal 2.
  • 2. Connect to CEB’s free Wi‑Fi in the arrivals area; it usually gives 1–2 hours of access.
  • 3. Open Grab, set your pickup to “Mactan Cebu International Airport Terminal 1” or “Terminal 2,” and confirm the exact door shown on the map.
  • 4. Enter your destination and check the fare estimate in pesos; compare it to the signboard metered fares posted near the taxi queue.
  • 5. Once a driver accepts, message them in-app with your door number or nearby landmark sign.
  • 6. Verify the plate number and driver name when the car pulls up before getting in.

Grab fares in Cebu use dynamic pricing, so a ride to Fuente Osmeña that shows ₱250 at 11:00 might spike to ₱350–₱400 at 19:00 in rain. Cash is widely used; card payments can fail if your bank flags foreign transactions, so keep at least ₱500 in cash from the airport ATM on Level 1 before you exit.

One tip: screenshot your Grab booking with the plate number and fare while on airport Wi‑Fi, since mobile data on some roaming plans drops right after you leave the terminal building.
