500 seats beat 67 every time: know which Loft you’re getting

The Loft by Brussels Airlines sits in Terminal T, Schengen Pier A near gate A42, and regulars only bother when the full 500-seat flagship is open instead of the 67-seat pop-up used during renovations. Star Alliance business and elite passengers with Schengen departures from Pier A/B typically get access, so this is the default lounge if you’re on Brussels Airlines in short-haul business.

During past renovation phases, Brussels Airlines shifted guests into a temporary Loft pop-up with capacity for just 67 people and sometimes pushed overflow to other lounges after 15:00. That smaller space drew pointed comments on FlyerTalk, including one traveler who said the pop-up Loft “is not worth making an effort to,” especially if it means a long walk off your route to the gate.

The main Loft sits above the A-gates around A42, so you’re roughly 5–10 minutes from most Schengen departures in Pier A. Access is airside after security in Terminal T, with the hallway up to the lounges clearly marked with “Lounges A” signs between gates A40 and A42. If you’re connecting from a non-Schengen flight in Pier B, plan on passport control plus the walk; figure 20–25 minutes total before you’re actually in a seat here.

Food and drink vary over the day, but pricing is rolled into your business class ticket or Star Alliance elite access, so you’re not paying at the door. Reports from renovation periods mention more limited catering in the pop-up compared with the full Loft, so don’t expect the same spread if staff tell you today is “temporary Loft only.” Coffee machines and basic snacks still show up, but hot options can be hit-or-miss in the smaller setup.

Regulars check in advance which Loft is running: full-size or pop-up, especially on days with heavy Brussels Airlines short-haul banks around the 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:00 waves. If the main Loft closes early, the play after about 15:00 has been to walk to Sunrise Lounge, which Brussels Airlines used as overflow on some renovation days, even if that adds a few extra minutes to your route to the gate.

Watch out for crowding during peak morning departures between 07:00 and 09:00, aggravated if only the 67-seat pop-up is operating instead of the 500-capacity original Loft by Brussels Airlines. One practical tip: before you commit to the A42 detour, ask at check-in or the transfer desk which Loft is open that day; if you hear “pop-up only,” you may be better off grabbing something in the main pier instead.
