Gate-side caffeine fix at BHX Terminal 1
This Costa Coffee sits airside in Terminal 1 at Birmingham Airport, after security and before most of the international gates. It runs from early morning through the typical first departures bank, so you can grab a flat white before those 06:00–07:00 flights. Expect standard UK high-street Costa pricing: roughly £3–£4 for espresso drinks and £4–£6 for sandwiches or toasties.
The menu is the usual Costa lineup: lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, hot chocolate, and a rotating seasonal special on the board near the till. Food-wise, you’ll see toasties like ham & cheese, chicken-based panini, and pre-packed sandwiches, plus pastries such as croissants, muffins, and brownies. If you just need something to throw in a bag, the counter also carries grab-and-go cakes, crisps, and bottled drinks.
Seating is limited and right in the Terminal 1 concourse, so at peak times around the 08:00 and early evening departures you may end up perching at a shared table or taking your drink back towards your gate. Turnaround is reasonably quick, but when two or three flights are called at once you can see a small queue forming for barista drinks, especially anything milk-heavy.
Best orders here: stick to simple coffee like an Americano or flat white, or tea if you want reliability before a short-hop flight under two hours. For food, the cheese & ham toastie or a plain croissant usually holds up better than salads or anything with lots of sauce that has been in the fridge cabinet for a while. Expect your drink in 3–7 minutes once you’ve paid, depending on the line.
Tip: if your gate is already posted, order takeaway cups and walk it down; announcements around the Costa seating area can get drowned out when three or four flights at T1 are boarding at the same time.
