Metered taxis reach central Manama from T1 in 15–20 minutes
Airport Taxi Service runs from outside Arrivals in Terminal 1, with cars lined up 24 hours a day. Rides into central Manama usually take 15–20 minutes in light traffic. This is the default option if you land late at night and don’t want to deal with buses or apps.
Fares use a meter, starting with a fixed airport flag drop that’s higher than in the city; the meter should switch on as you leave the T1 curb. A typical run to Manama hotels runs in the 5–8 BHD range, depending on traffic on Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway. Keep small notes; drivers sometimes struggle to break 20 BHD bills.
The official queue sits directly opposite the main exit doors in Arrivals, about a 2–3 minute walk from baggage belt 5. Look for white taxis with the standard Bahrain plates and the official airport signage; skip any unmarked cars or drivers who approach you inside the terminal. The stand has staff during most daytime bank hours to point you to the next cab.
Payment is usually cash in Bahraini dinar, though a growing number of cars carry basic card terminals that accept Visa and MasterCard for fares above 3–4 BHD. Don’t count on cards at 02:00; hit the ATMs by Door 1 in T1 before you walk out. Tipping isn’t mandatory, but people often round up by 0.5 BHD on a 6 BHD ride.
Travel time can jump from 15 to 25 minutes around 07:30–09:00 and 16:30–18:30 on workdays, especially heading over the causeway toward Manama. If your flight out of BAH departs between 08:00 and 10:00, add 10 extra minutes to the ride estimate when leaving central hotels. The taxis can use the same airport drop-off lane used by private cars right in front of Departures.
Practical tip: before you get in, ask the driver for a rough price to your exact hotel in Manama, compare it to a 5–8 BHD ballpark, and politely insist on the meter being switched on as you exit the Terminal 1 curbside lane.
