AED 4 gets you from AUH to Abu Dhabi city on A1

The A1 public bus links Zayed International Airport (Terminal A) with central Abu Dhabi for a flat AED 4, 24 hours a day. It runs both directions through the night, so you can use it after a 02:00 arrival just as easily as at 14:00.

A1 stops outside Terminal A’s arrivals area, so you collect bags, exit customs, then follow signs for public buses at ground level. Pay the AED 4 fare with a Hafilat card or exact change; there’s no premium airport surcharge baked in, just the standard city rate.

Journey time varies with traffic along the Sheikh Zayed Street corridor, so there’s no fixed timetable in minutes, but the bus keeps a 24/7 schedule with short gaps at peak times and slightly longer intervals late at night. If you land around 08:00 or 18:00, plan extra time as the route hits regular city congestion.

The A1 route runs between AUH and key stops in Abu Dhabi, including areas around the bus stations that feed local routes 24 hours a day. That AED 4 ticket covers a single ride on A1 itself; if you need to transfer to another city bus afterward, you pay an additional local fare on that leg.

A1 uses standard city buses, not dedicated airport coaches, so don’t expect oversized luggage racks or separate baggage holds. For a family with two big checked bags and two carry-ons, you’re trading space and comfort for the low AED 4 price per person.

If you land into Terminal A late at night after 23:00, A1 is still running and still AED 4, while taxis into central Abu Dhabi can easily run ten times that amount. If cost matters more than speed, walk straight to the public bus stop and skip the taxi queue.

Practical tip: buy or load a Hafilat card before you board and keep at least AED 4 credit on it, so you’re not hunting for small bills at the Terminal A bus stop with a line of people behind you.
