During peak season, the main ANU lot fills fast.
When the primary car park at V. C. Bird International Airport’s Terminal 1 hits capacity, cars spill into the Overflow Parking Area, a designated peak-period lot on the same airport grounds. It opens only when the main facility is close to full, usually during holiday periods, cruise changeover days, or weekend bank-holiday waves. You still park within the secure airport perimeter, so you’re not dealing with off-site shuttles or long back-road detours.
The Overflow Parking Area serves the same Terminal 1 departures and arrivals traffic as the main lot, so you’re always walking back to the same curb. Distances can be longer than the regular car park, so budget an extra 5–10 minutes to walk from your space to check-in, especially under midday sun. Lighting and surface quality vary a bit in overflow setups, so if you’re arriving after 20:00 it’s worth aiming for a spot closer to the main access road or terminal side.
Pricing normally tracks the main airport rates, with daily charges in the same bracket as other on-site ANU parking options; the key difference is availability during crunch times, not a big discount. Payment still runs through the airport’s official system, using the same tickets and booths you’d use for the primary lot, and you exit through the standard barriers near the terminal access road. Keep your entry ticket dry and handy, as replacement fees at many Caribbean airports can run into double-digit USD.
Practical tip: on busy Saturdays and around major holidays, plan to reach the airport car parks at least 30 minutes earlier than usual so you have time to park in Overflow, walk in, and still hit the Terminal 1 check-in counters before they close.
