Cafe Cocoon

Gate-side stop: Cafe Cocoon sits airside in Schiphol’s non-Schengen zone.

Cafe Cocoon is post-security in Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), useful if you’ve already cleared passport control and want a sit-down coffee before a long-haul flight. Expect standard European airport pricing: a cappuccino usually lands around €4–€5 and small pastries run in the €3–€4 range. Seating is basic café tables, close enough to nearby gates that you can keep an eye on boarding screens while you eat.

The menu leans on coffee, tea, soft drinks, and simple snacks. Think croissants, cakes, and a few light bites rather than full hot meals. Portion sizes skew small, so budget two items if you actually want to feel full before an 8–10 hour flight. If you just need a quick caffeine hit before a 06:00 or 07:00 departure, the espresso is usually the fastest option to order and drink.

Service at Cafe Cocoon runs at typical Schiphol pace: not slow, not especially quick. Figure 10–15 minutes from order to first sip when it’s busy at morning bank times around 07:00–09:00 and again 16:00–19:00. Staff handle a mix of take-away and dine-in, so stand directly at the counter to order and then grab a table; there’s no table service. Most payments go contactless, and cards from major issuers like Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted.

Power outlets are limited, so don’t count on charging a laptop or phone at every seat. Wi‑Fi is Schiphol’s free airport network, not specific to Cafe Cocoon, and typically clocks in fast enough for email and light streaming. If your layover is under 45 minutes, grab a takeaway drink and pastry instead of sitting down; boarding can start a full 40 minutes before departure on long-haul flights from this area.

Tip: order and pay in one go at the counter, then watch the overhead airport screens from your table so you don’t miss a gate change while you drink.
