Valet Parking

Valet

ISK 3,500 a day is what you’ll pay, but valet here is theory only

Akureyri Airport is tiny, with a single Main terminal and one surface lot right next to the building, and every official source only mentions camera-based self-park, not a staffed Valet Parking handoff. The quoted ISK 3,500 daily rate lines up with paid parking at Iceland’s regional airports in general, but there’s no sign of a separate valet lane, kiosk, or key drop at AEY. If someone is selling you “Valet Parking” here, assume it’s just using the same license-plate scanned lot at terminal distance pricing.

Isavia’s own Akureyri parking page talks about driving in, having your plate scanned automatically, and paying after your stay, but never once mentions handing keys to anyone or any Valet Parking product by name. Iceland Review’s coverage of the new paid parking scheme describes Akureyri as a single parking zone with app-based payment, and again there’s no reference to dedicated valet staff or a premium drop-off bay. TripAdvisor threads from 2018 and later describe people simply leaving rental cars in the airport lot overnight, with zero chatter about a more expensive ISK 3,500 valet tier.

If you see “Valet Parking – next to terminal – ISK 3,500 per day” on a third-party site, treat it as a labeling mismatch for the standard Akureyri lot that already sits immediately beside the terminal. There’s no separate building, no different distance, and no published higher service level. You still park yourself, walk the short path to Main, and the system tracks you by license plate. Final tip: before you bank on any valet-style handoff, double-check Isavia’s AEY page on the week you travel and assume self-park only unless they explicitly describe a staffed valet service.
