Long Stay Parking

Long stay

After day 7, AEY’s parking actually gets cheaper per day

Akureyri’s Long Stay Parking sits right by the Main terminal, about 0.5 miles from the end of the access road and roughly a 10‑minute walk from the furthest spots to check‑in. There’s just one surface lot handling both short and long stays, so you park in the same zone as everyone else and still stay close to the tiny terminal doors.

Pricing kicks in after 14 free hours. From hour 14 through the first week, you pay about 1,750 ISK per day, then it drops to roughly 1,350 ISK per day for days 8–14, and steps down again to around 1,200 ISK per day from day 15 onward. Isavia also publishes a simple headline rate of 1,500 ISK per day or 10,000 ISK per week, so week‑plus trips are where this lot starts to beat Reykjavik‑side parking on value.

There’s no barrier gate or paper ticket here; the system reads your plate and uses Isavia’s Autopay. You can pay online or in the app as soon as you park, or within 48 hours of exit. If you forget completely, an electronic invoice goes to the vehicle owner with the normal fee plus a 1,490 ISK surcharge, which locals often just approve through their online banking.

Regulars flying domestic runs to Reykjavík often register their plate with Autopay once, then let charges hit automatically after each week‑long trip, so there’s no hunting for a pay station at midnight. One TripAdvisor poster even left a rental car overnight here between flights and reported “no issues” picking it up after their return leg. Tip: if you’re not on the Autopay system, set a reminder on your phone for that 48‑hour online payment window to dodge the extra 1,490 ISK fee.
