Duty Free Shop

T2

Gate area in T2 is where you’ll spot the main Duty Free Shop

This Duty Free Shop sits airside in Terminal 2, handy for most Ethiopian Airlines international departures. Stock leans heavily toward liquor, perfume, and cigarettes, with shelves of whisky and cognac taking up a big chunk of the floor space. Expect global labels at roughly tax-free pricing, though some items match downtown Addis costs once you do the currency math. It’s a good last stop if you skipped shopping in the city and just need a recognizable brand off the shelf.

The shop usually opens early enough to catch 06:00–08:00 bank departures from T2 and stays open late for overnight flights, which is when traffic peaks. Candy and chocolate options come in standard travel boxes, so it’s easy to grab 200–400 g gift packs without hunting around. You’ll also see a limited stock of electronics and headphones in glass cases, often at prices that won’t beat Jumia or EU airports, so treat that section as backup only.

Payment works in multiple currencies: US dollars, euros, and Ethiopian birr all show up at the till, and credit cards run through in either USD or ETB depending on the terminal prompt. A 1-liter bottle of mid-range whisky typically lands below what you’d pay in many European hubs, but high-end fragrances can be the same or slightly higher than Dubai or Doha. If you’re tight on time before a T2 flight, walk the main concourse once, spot the Duty Free Shop sign, and decide quickly; queues spike hard in the 45 minutes before the big long-haul banks.
