Bus

Bus 60-80 min Arrecife–Playa Blanca (plus 10-20 min airport–Arrecife connection if used from ACE) ≈€4-5 Arrecife–Playa Blanca

€4–5 gets you from Arrecife to Playa Blanca the cheap way

Bus Line 261 runs Arrecife–Playa Blanca via inland villages, with a daytime timetable and gaps of 60–90 minutes between buses. It’s the “back-road bus” locals use for work when Line 161 times don’t line up, not the first pick after a 4‑hour flight.

From César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (ACE) you cannot board 261 directly; you first ride Line 22 or 23 from T1 to Arrecife, which usually adds 10–20 minutes before you even see a 261 stop. After that, the Arrecife–Playa Blanca leg takes about 60–80 minutes, so door-to-door you’re often looking at 70–100 minutes minimum.

A single Arrecife–Playa Blanca ticket on 261 costs around €4–5, paid on board in cash or contactless, depending on the current IntercityBus rules. Compare that to paying for a separate airport–Playa Blanca coach or a €50–60 taxi and you see why frugal workers put up with village detours and slower travel times.

Line 261 runs in daytime only, with bigger timetable holes than 161; miss a bus around midday and you can easily sit in Arrecife another 60–90 minutes. Residents complain it crawls through villages, so after a late arrival into ACE at 21:00 or a red‑eye connection through T1, this route feels long and tiring.

Regulars use 261 mainly when they actually live in the inland stops, commuting between Playa Blanca and Arrecife for work, then switching to an airport bus for flights. Locals in Playa Blanca Facebook groups straight up tell visitors to stick with direct Line 161 from ACE unless they specifically need one of 261’s intermediate villages like Yaiza or Uga.

To make it work from ACE, you time your T1 bus to Arrecife so you arrive 10–15 minutes before a 261 departure, not 40 minutes after. Check the IntercityBus Lanzarote timetable before you fly, then screenshot the 261 and 22/23 pages so if airport Wi‑Fi dies, you still know which departure you’re aiming for.
