Bus Line 161

Bus

Bus 25-30 min to Puerto del Carmen · 70-90 min to Playa Blanca ≈€3-4 to Puerto del Carmen, ≈€4-5 to Playa Blanca

€3–5 gets you from ACE to the main resorts

Bus Line 161 is the cheap workhorse from César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (ACE) to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, running roughly 06:00–22:00 with buses every 30–60 minutes. End-to-end, the timetable shows around 1 hour 10–20 minutes from the airport to Playa Blanca, but real riders report 80–90 minutes when traffic and stops pile up. Compared with €40–50 for a taxi to Playa Blanca, this is the option budget travellers default to when they land in T1.

The airport stop is outside T1 on the public road and shared with other IntercityBus routes, so pay attention to the front display and make sure it says 161 Aeropuerto – Playa Blanca. Some first-timers have boarded the opposite direction and had to backtrack, adding 20–30 unnecessary minutes. Tickets are paid directly to the driver; have small notes or coins ready, because fares around €3–4 to Puerto del Carmen and €4–5 to Playa Blanca can be awkward with big bills.

Step-by-step: using Bus Line 161 from ACE

  • 1. Land and exit T1 arrivals: After baggage claim in Terminal 1, walk straight out of the building and follow the “Bus / Guaguas” signs; you’re looking for the signed public bus stop on the roadside, about a 2–3 minute walk from the doors.
  • 2. Find the right bus: Check the front of the bus for route 161 going toward Puerto del Carmen / Playa Blanca, not Arrecife or another number; if in doubt, ask “¿Playa Blanca?” before you board.
  • 3. Pay the driver: Tell the driver “Puerto del Carmen” or “Playa Blanca” and pay the cash fare (roughly €3–4 or €4–5 respectively); keep the small paper ticket, as inspectors occasionally board en route.
  • 4. Ride to your stop: Expect 25–30 minutes to Puerto del Carmen; stay on the same bus for Playa Blanca, which usually totals 70–90 minutes from the airport depending on traffic and intermediate resort stops.
  • 5. Walk or taxi the last stretch: From the stop in Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca, many regulars walk 5–15 minutes to accommodation, or grab a short €5–10 taxi if they have heavy luggage or arrive tired.

What regulars do and what to watch for

Frequent visitors often ride 161 only as far as Puerto del Carmen, then share a taxi for the last 15–30 minutes to Playa Blanca, chopping a €40–50 direct taxi bill down to something closer to €10–20 per person. Others coming from Arrecife flip the script and catch an earlier town bus to meet 161 at the airport instead of waiting in Arrecife for the direct Playa Blanca service. Seats can be tight; during big mid-day arrivals, reviews mention buses packed with luggage and some people standing for part of the 25–30 minute leg to Puerto del Carmen.

Evenings are thinner: towards the end of the 06:00–22:00 span, intervals stretch closer to 60 minutes, so a 45–60 minute flight delay can strand you. Build the buffer: if your landing time is after 20:30, have a backup taxi plan and check the day’s timetable before you board your inbound flight.
