ZET Bus Line 290

Bus

Bus 45-50 min

45–50 minutes into central Zagreb for the lowest cash outlay

ZET Bus Line 290 runs between Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport T1 and Kvaternikov trg on the eastern side of the city, taking about 45–50 minutes. This is the cheapest fixed-route option from the terminal, using the same suburban buses locals use for daily commuting.

The 290 stop sits outside T1’s arrivals area, signed as the ZET suburban bus stop, a short walk from the main exit doors. Buses run only during ZET’s regular daytime schedule, so think roughly early morning to late evening, not 24/7 like some airport coaches. If you land around midnight, you’ll be too late for this line.

Standard ZET suburban fares apply on Line 290, typically just a few euros equivalent for the full airport–city run, paid either in kuna legacy pricing converted to euros or via current ZET ticketing. Compared with the faster airport coach or taxis at 25–35 minutes into town, the 45–50 minute ride on 290 saves you the most money if you’re counting every euro.

Line 290 is a regular suburban route with multiple intermediate stops between T1 and Kvaternikov trg, so don’t expect luggage racks or nonstop operation. The bus often carries airport staff heading to shifts and locals traveling between outlying districts and the city, and it feels like any other ZET line serving greater Zagreb.

You can usually buy a paper ticket from the driver on 290 using small cash, or use ZET’s standard city tickets valid in the correct zone, which also work on trams once you reach Kvaternikov trg. That handoff point connects you to tram lines 4, 5, 7, 11 and 12, so you can be at the main square (Trg bana Jelačića) about 10–15 minutes after hopping off the bus.

Build a buffer of at least 70–80 minutes from Kvaternikov trg back to T1 if you plan to use 290 to catch a flight, combining a 45–50 minute bus ride with 20–30 minutes of margin for waits and traffic. One practical tip: check the ZET timetable for Line 290 on the day you travel and aim for an earlier bus than you think you need, then grab food at T1 landside if you arrive ahead of schedule.
