Cell Phone Lot

Free waiting

Skip short-term fees and wait here until they text

YYC’s Cell Phone Lot is a free waiting area for drivers doing quick pickups at the Domestic and International terminals. You park, stay with your vehicle, and roll to the curb only after your passenger is standing outside with bags in hand. This cuts out loops around the arrivals level and avoids paying the hourly rate at the Parkade, which starts charging from minute one.

The lot is clearly signed as “Cell Phone Waiting Lot” on airport approach roads leading to Calgary International Airport. It sits a few minutes’ drive from the main terminal buildings, so you can be at the Domestic or International arrivals curb in roughly 3–5 minutes once your passenger calls. You’re not meant to leave the car or walk to the terminal from here; think staging zone, not long-term parking.

Use this lot only for active pickups, not overnight or long stays. Airport rules typically cap waiting to about 30–60 minutes, and vehicles must be attended at all times, which means you stay in the driver’s seat or close enough to pull out quickly. There are no marked stalls for RVs or trailers, so stick to regular passenger vehicles. If you expect delays or a long deplaning process, pay for short-term parking in the Parkade instead.

Plan your timing around actual arrival time, not the original schedule. Check your airline’s live status, head to the Cell Phone Lot once the flight shows “Landed,” then wait for the text saying they’re at the arrivals curb. Practical tip: agree on “Door 1–11” and terminal (Domestic or International) before they fly, so you can pull up, load bags in under 2 minutes, and leave before airport staff wave you on.
