For example, downtown Vancouver hotels fall under a fixed-price zone instead of the meter, while addresses in Richmond or Burnaby that don’t match a posted zone use standard meter rates. You’ll see the official zone chart on boards beside the queues and on the taxi stand pillars.

Meter rates apply the moment you leave the terminal curb if your destination is outside a listed YVR zone, including many houses in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and parts of Surrey. This works well for families heading to residential areas like Lynn Valley or Steveston where the Canada Line doesn’t reach within a 10–15 minute walk. Drivers can give a rough estimate in minutes and dollars before you get in; ask before doors close.

Taxi pickup for the South Terminal uses a smaller stand right outside the single main entrance, about 4 km from the Main Terminal. Flights on regional carriers and seaplane shuttles use South, and taxis swing through in rotation during published flight banks roughly every 30–60 minutes. If you land at South after 23:00, staff at the info desk can call a cab from the same licensed pool serving the Main Terminal.

Zone fares from YVR include bridge tolls and airport fees in the posted price, so you shouldn’t see extras added for crossing the Arthur Laing or Oak Street bridges into Vancouver. Tipping around 10–15% on a $35–$40 downtown run is standard, and most cars accept cards plus tap payments; confirm machine status before a 25-minute ride to Port Coquitlam or Maple Ridge.
