Duty Free

Prices in CAD with tax removed make this Duty Free worth a look if you’re already airside on an international flight at YUL.

This is the main Duty Free in Montréal–Trudeau’s international area, past security and passport control, serving flights heading outside Canada and the US. You’ll see the usual liquor wall up front, with 1L bottles of whisky, gin, and rum often running 10–25% under downtown Montréal prices once you factor in tax savings. Tobacco sits in the same section; check your destination’s duty-free allowance before grabbing a full carton.

Beauty and skincare take up a big chunk of floor space, with brands like Lancôme, Estée Lauder, and Chanel lined up at counters. Standard 50 ml fragrances and skincare sets often come in travel-only bundles, so compare unit prices instead of just “set” prices. Electronics and sunglasses fill the middle of the shop; expect typical airport markups on headphones, but sunglasses from brands like Ray-Ban occasionally line up with Canadian mall pricing, minus tax.

Food and gifts sit toward the back: maple syrup cans, maple butter, and ice wine from Québec wineries, plus branded Montréal and Canada souvenirs. Small maple candy boxes around the CAD 8–12 mark pack easily and beat the oversized gift tins. Staff usually offer samples on select spirits in the evening rush before 21:00, especially when multiple Europe-bound flights depart within the same 60–90 minute window.

Tip: check your gate number and boarding time first, then give yourself a hard stop 20 minutes before boarding starts so you don’t end up sprinting through YUL with glass bottles.
