Heinemann Duty Free

Gate-side liquor deals start here at Heinemann Duty Free

This is the main duty free operator in Terminals 1 and 3 at Vienna International Airport, sitting just past security with walk-through stores on the way to most Schengen and non-Schengen gates. You pass at least one Heinemann between passport control and the long non-Schengen pier, so you don’t need to backtrack for a last-minute bottle or gifts.

Standard opening hours run from early morning departures around 05:00 until the late-night bank of flights around 22:00, but smaller satellite branches near distant gates can close earlier. Prices on 1L spirits often undercut downtown Vienna shops by a few euros, especially on whisky and gin promos stacked near the central Terminal 3 store.

Cosmetics and perfume lines cover the usual big brands, with seasonal sets often around the €40–€70 mark. Chocolate walls lean heavily on Austrian names like Manner and Zotter alongside the global brands, so it’s easy to grab a recognisable local gift for under €10 before heading to a long-haul gate in Terminal 3.

Cigarettes and rolling tobacco sit in a clearly marked section at the back, with cartons priced for EU and non-EU allowances; check the posted allowance boards next to the tills if you’re connecting on to the UK, Switzerland, or outside the EU. Staff usually speak German and English, and they’ll tag duty free bags for transfer passengers continuing beyond Vienna.

One tip: if you’re on a tight connection under 45 minutes, skip the first walk-through branch after security and use the smaller Heinemann closer to your exact gate instead; signage in Terminals 1 and 3 lists shop icons with gate numbers, so follow those rather than the main “Shopping Plaza” arrows.
