20–30 minutes gets you from VCE to Mestre with ATVO
ATVO Express Shuttle runs branded coaches from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) T1 to Mestre in about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic on the SR11. It’s the airport’s bus option that actually uses the word “Express” in its name, so you can spot the blue-and-white ATVO logo fast when you exit arrivals at T1.
Buses leave from the main coach parking area in front of T1, with stops clearly marked “ATVO” and separate from the ACTV local buses. Tickets usually cost just a few euros more than the slower local lines, and you can buy them at ATVO ticket counters in the arrivals hall or from airport vending machines that show the ATVO logo. Most coaches have luggage holds under the floor, so full-size checked bags stay off your lap.
Service typically runs from early morning to late evening, roughly covering the main flight banks at VCE between about 06:00 and 23:00. The Mestre route focuses on key stops like Venezia Mestre train station, which is useful if you’re catching Trenitalia or Italo trains to cities such as Milan or Bologna. The shuttle branding helps first-timers separate it from the orange ACTV buses and private vans clustering outside T1.
Onboard, seats are standard coach style with a single center aisle, and most newer ATVO vehicles offer basic air conditioning and interior lighting even on late runs after 21:00. The ride time to Mestre station sits in the 20–30 minute range in normal traffic, but it can stretch closer to 35 minutes in peak weekday rush hours around 17:00–19:00. Drivers usually check or sell tickets before boarding, so have a few euros of cash or a card ready.
For Venice-bound trips, ATVO also runs separate airport coaches into Piazzale Roma, while the Mestre shuttle continues to focus on the mainland side around the FS station area. If you land in T1 with a rail connection leaving Mestre within 45–60 minutes, the Express Shuttle is usually the simplest match. Tip: buy a return ticket at the airport counter when you arrive at VCE, so you don’t have to hunt for a machine at Mestre station on your way back to T1.
