Gate-area pricing without city-center hunting: that’s Venice Duty Free
Venice Duty Free sits airside in Terminal T1, after security, so you hit it naturally on the walk to most Schengen and non-Schengen gates. It runs from early morning through late evening in line with the first and last departures, so you can grab something on a 06:00 departure or a 22:00 return to London or Paris without stressing about closed shutters.
Expect the usual duty-free mix: Italian wines and prosecco, mainstream spirits, tobacco, perfumes, cosmetics, and boxed chocolates, all under the Venice Duty Free banner. Prices on standard 1L spirits and 0.75L wine bottles are typically lower than in central Venice shops once you factor in tourist-area markups, though ultra-premium labels can still feel airport-priced rather than bargain-bin.
Gifting is straightforward here: you’ll see stacks of 200g–500g chocolate boxes, logo mugs, and small Veneto-themed souvenirs that fit inside a single cabin bag. Skincare and fragrance counters run the majors you’d expect in a European hub, and promotions usually kick in around two bottles or two items, so buying for at least two people often makes the per-item cost more reasonable.
Liquids rules still apply at VCE, but if you’re flying long-haul with a same-ticket connection onward, staff usually seal 1L bottles and larger items in tamper-evident bags at checkout. If you’re on separate tickets, especially via another EU or UK airport, play it safe and buy any high-value bottle here as your final leg instead of on an earlier hop.
Quick tip: check wine and grappa labels for DOC or DOCG markings before paying; those four letters do more for quality than any “Venice” branding splashed on the front.
