Relay

Gate-side books and snacks near departures in T1

Relay in Venice Marco Polo’s T1 sits airside in the main departures area, an easy stop after security before you get pulled toward the gates. It’s a classic airport newsstand: magazines, paperbacks, stationery, and grab-and-go snacks all in one tight footprint. You’re not coming here for charm; you’re coming because you still need something to read or chew at 06:30 before boarding.

Opening hours generally track the first and last departures in T1, roughly 05:00 until around 21:00, but expect shorter hours in the off-season winter months. Prices sit at typical European airport levels: a bottled drink runs around €3, a basic sandwich or snack pack lands closer to €5–€7, and international magazines regularly clear the €8 mark. Figure on paying a small premium to avoid walking back to landside.

Stock leans heavily toward Italian and English titles, with a noticeable slant to current bestsellers and glossy travel and fashion magazines; niche language or specialist magazines are rare. Snacks are mostly big-brand chocolate bars, crisps, and packaged pastries, along with a small rack of mints and gum. If you need cables, SIM cards, or power banks, Relay usually carries a modest electronics corner with USB-C and Lightning options, though at higher prices than in town.

Lines build right after major Schengen departures blocks, typically around 07:00–09:00 and again after 16:00, when multiple gates call boarding at once. Card payments are the norm, and contactless works quickly; small purchases under €10 sometimes get a raised eyebrow if you hand over a €50 note. If you’re tight on time, pick your drink and snack first, then grab a paperback; the book section moves slower and clogs the single checkout.

Tip: If your gate is in the Schengen wing of T1, swing by Relay immediately after security rather than waiting until you’re deep in the gate pier, where options shrink to vending machines and one or two small cafés.
