Fares follow Sun Tran rates, but Sun Van runs door-to-door
Sun Van is Tucson’s ADA paratransit service, running shared-ride, curb-to-curb trips to and from Tucson International Airport (TUS) Main Terminal for riders who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It operates within the same general service area and hours as the local Sun Tran bus system, so if Sun Tran is running in your neighborhood, Sun Van usually is too.
Reservations are required: you typically need to book Sun Van at least 1 day in advance for airport pickups or drop-offs at TUS Main. Trips are scheduled in 30-minute pickup windows, so if your flight departs at 10:00, plan your requested time backward from when you want to be at the ticket counters on the departures level. Same-day requests are hit-or-miss and not guaranteed.
Fares on Sun Van match regular Sun Tran fares, which keeps airport rides significantly cheaper than most taxi or rideshare options from many parts of Tucson. Drivers help with boarding and exiting the vehicle, and Sun Van vehicles are wheelchair-accessible with ramps or lifts that meet ADA standards. You’re sharing the ride, so expect routing that picks up or drops off other riders along the way.
For Tucson International Airport pickups, Sun Van vehicles meet riders at the commercial vehicle area near the Main Terminal, in the same general zone used by other pre-arranged services. You’ll get a pickup time window and may receive an updated time as the vehicle gets closer. Build at least 15–20 extra minutes into your curbside pickup after landing to account for deplaning and baggage claim.
Because Sun Van aligns its hours with Sun Tran, early-morning departures before 05:00 or late arrivals after 23:00 can be tricky from some neighborhoods. Check the current Sun Van service hours for your specific pickup address before you book a 06:00 departure from TUS. If your flight time shifts outside the operating window, you’ll need a backup plan like a taxi or rideshare.
One tip: when booking your Sun Van trip to TUS, pad your requested arrival time at the Main Terminal by at least 60 minutes beyond TSA’s usual “2 hours before departure” advice, since paratransit routing can add 20–40 minutes of extra driving compared with a direct car ride.
